Kelly Fleming
1983-1999
Quiet and somewhat shy, Kelly expressed herself well on paper. She was writing the story of her life when she was killed. Her dad lovingly remarked that when they killed his daughter, they killed innocence. She was just learning to drive and wanted to get a job at a day care center so she could save up money for a Mustang or a Corvette. She had a passion for writing and wanted to pursue that as a career.

If you have some pictures of Kelly, please send them to me, or have them scanned and email them to me. I found these on the web, but would welcome a more personal image.

Anyone that would care to, please send me any fond memories of Kelly that you have that you would like included here (see below).

Memories of Kelly...

Erin and Kelly as kidsWhen my brother Don asked me if I could give a eulogy for Kelly at the Memorial service I was honored. While I was writing the eulogy, I told Jacque I hoped I would have the strength, when the time came during the service, to read it. I didn’t realize at the time that this would be the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life. If not for the support of my wonderful daughter Kimberly, who stood side by side with me through the reading, I'm not sure if I would have been able to complete what my brother requested. I also know that God was by my side, as always, and Kelly was there, looking over my shoulder.

To my brother Don, his wife Dee Dee, and their daughter Erin, you are forever in our thoughts and prayers, as are all the victims of this horrible tragedy.

Kelly’s Eulogy by Uncle Ray

Since there are several different families here tonight I wanted to begin by introducing myself. My name is Ray Fleming. I am Kelly Fleming’s Uncle and Godfather. I would like to say a few words about Kelly.

Kelly and ErinShe was always extra special in my heart because she was my Godchild. Just over sixteen years ago Don and Dee Dee asked me to be Kelly’s Godfather. I was always touched by their request and I have always considered being Kelly’s Godfather an honor.

Kelly was a very independent young lady. She came to visit us the last two summers, in Houston, and was very content as long as she had a book to read, or some paper and a pen to write with.

Kelly had dreams and goals that I always felt were fascinating. Kelly aspired to be a writer, poet and songwriter. One of Kelly’s dreams was to one day own a corvette. I would often tease her about her bank account, for she was a good saver and was saving for that corvette.

My family and I were here last month on Spring Break. I am very glad for the time we were able to spend with Kelly. Her wants were small. She didn’t care to go skiing with us, or sight seeing. All she wanted to do was go to the zoo, which we did, and we had a very fun day.

Kelly and Grandma I used to tease Kelly because she would never answer a question with a yes or a no. It would always be “sure”, “okay” or “I guess”.

In closing, I just want to say that Kelly was a loving, kind, gentle and innocent soul. Kelly was someone who would never hurt anyone, which makes this tragedy even harder for any of us to understand. I do know that everyone will miss Kelly very much. I will always hold a special place for her in my heart.

Kelly, we all know you are in good hands, and I would like to ask a favor of you. Please ask God to grant your Mom, Dad and your sister, Erin, the strength and courage to make it through this most difficult time.

A Prayer for Littleton

TO: L I T T L E T O N, C O.
FROM: G O D
DATE: A P R I L 2 1, 1 9 9 9

Dear Parents, Friends and Loved Ones,
Of these precious youth you've lost,
I see your broken spirits,
I know the terrible cost.

Although I'm not allowed,
In schools across our land,
They can't keep me from loving kids,
And offering them my hand.

Though evil reigned at Columbine,
And horror filled the air,
I wanted all of you to know,
I left Heaven and came there.

I summoned Heaven's Angels,
Long before the call came in,
To share the dreadful warning,
Of what would soon begin.

The angels' wings were folded,
They knew what was to come,
When I said, "I'll lead this mission."
They followed one by one.

"I will go and get these babies,
And bring them home with me,
Where they'll live in Heaven's Schoolhouse,
Where it's safe and terror free."

Yes, I've prepared a Special Schoolhouse,
It stands out from all the rest,
The Welcome Mat reads, "Columbine,"
It's reserved for Heaven's best.

I was hovering all around them,
In the Library and the Hall,
When the evil forces entered,
Your children heard me call.

I wrapped my arms around them,
Pulled them close unto my breast,
"I've come to take you with me,
We must go and leave the rest."

"Your friends will long remember,
All the cool times that we shared,
And the Angels will remind them,
How very much you cared."

Yes, I took those precious children,
In the twinkling of an eye,
We were on our way to Heaven,
To their Schoolhouse in the sky.

I know your hearts are broken,
I know the pain you bear,
My heart is also broken,
By the evil everywhere.

Please help me fight this battle,
To keep our children safe,
Through prayers and love and sharing,
And holding to the Faith,

That Peace will surely reign one day,
In schools throughout the lands,
For all our future hopes and dreams,
Rest in our students' hands.

I'll give you peace to fill your heart,
Send sun to break the night,
Provide the strength to move beyond,
The wrongs and do what's right.

You ask how I can know your pain,
From the loss of your dear one,
It's because it seems like yesterday,
When I, too gave up a Son.

I love you,
God.
